Lewis Caroll's infamous character of The Chesire Cat once said to Alice: "If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there" and that is an unofficial motto and mantra of Starfleet Academy's Preparatory Program which seeks out talented young minds across the United Federation of Planets and its protectorates who display significant potential but are unsure if a career in Starfleet is for them.
The Preparatory Program Director, Commander Izzy Schröder has received Federation funding to take the Aerie class starship Warbler on a series of adventures. Several selected students ages 13 to 18 have been given an opportunity to traverse deep space, visiting strange worlds while learning more about Starfleet, preparing them for their entrance examination.

The Starship Warbler is an inclusive sim with writers and characters that are from different racial, ethnic, and cultural roots with various gender identities and sexual orientations. All are welcome on the Warbler and are expected to adhere to rules and guidelines.

Qual'tez Jones has received an accepted offer to the Starfleet Academy Preparatory Program. Arriving at the office of Commander Schroder, he stood in the waiting room with his mother Lt. Commander Katrina Jones. His mother had been giving him some last-minute advice throughout the entire ride here. After wishing him well, she left the waiting room. Qual'tez typically didn't get nervous easily, but for some reason this visit was leaving feeling a bit uneasy. Perhaps, because this was one of the most important achievements of his young life.

The door hissed open and Minato entered his quarters, careful to step on the rubber matt he'd brought so that he could take his shoes of there. He cleaned them right away placing them inside a cabinet he'd put by the door and then moved over to the bathroom to wash his hands. Sighing he looked around at his quarters. Aboard the starship Warbler's first deck sat a conference room - compact, utilitarian space typical of smaller Federation starships albeit this conference room was much less accommodating. The walls were featureless dull gray, punctuated only by subtle panel seams and a single control console near the door and a single screen. The room was bathed in bright, even lighting from recessed fixtures in the ceiling, casting minimal shadow and eliminating any hint of warmth. The effect was clinical—precise yet quite impersonal.

One could not call this a sickbay, it was a med bay. It was well stocked, from what Minato had seen, and it was enough, three bio beds and a small office. The EMH would be an instruction EMH as it had surgical skills and its job was to help, teach, and even instruct Minato during the final year of study. Technically Minato was the CMO but that was neither here nor there.

Lucian made his way to the Commander's office. He had yet to go to his quarters but first he wanted to check in. Standing at her door he heard some voices from within. There was something familiar about one of the voices. He rang the chime.
